ribbons of white part the water's surface as trainers depart by boat and pokemon. noah is one of the last to go. from the teetering edge of sea mauville, his grapploct waits for further instruction. one tentacle traces the collecting sea froth before the bubbles break.[break][break]

an elite ranger is quick to whisper to noah about Chrysanthe Kubrick's backtracking. into the dilapidated labyrinth of brine and cobwebs, she had gone to retrieve a lost item. did she know that she would also become one herself?[break][break]

noah instructs the remaining rangers to leave. he'll stay behind. he'll find her, and as he wanders back into sea mauville's rusty innards with his grapploct, he calls out to her: "chrysanthe?! you in there? somewhere?"[break][break]

he accidentally kicks over a dislodged shelf. it clatters and surprises the grapploct into a stiff glare.[break][break]

"it's dangerous in there! how about we just leave what you lost for now, ask the next group to look for it, and i can treat you to some bubble tea or something?"

There has never been a worse time to lose item after item, wondering and wandering around as she strays from the frantic individuals that are only here to help. She doesn't mean to make the situation worse, but ... there is the tunnel vision that prevents her from seeing further than the eye within her mind. No further than the sunlight illuminating the lost streets of a sunken castle.[break]

Pressing the Munna close to her chest, she furrows her eyebrows as she looks around. It must have slipped in here ... she saw it when she was riding the boats earlier, but it seems harder than ever to find. Still, her feet are striving forward, shadows enveloping her figure as she doesn't seem to listen to much of the fallen hubris around her. Until she hears a voice - rather unfamiliar, perhaps heard in the shuffle in a group of rangers, and ... huh?[break]

"Bubble tea?" she halts for the first time in a while, shouting back - she doesn't quite see the figure just yet, but backtracking on what he said ... "But ... but it's really important - I can't leave without it ..."

upon hearing her voice, noah nods at his grapploct. its dark azure body crawls up the wall like a midnight mantle. each tentacle is careful not to cling too harshly lest the suction's pop surprise nearby threats or worse: chrysanthe herself.[break][break]

"what'd you lose?" noah throws his inquiry into the maze. "in case you don't remember my voice... i'm noah, the gym leader guy in charge."[break][break]

his grapploct clears one corner before sprawling outward to the next. closer and closer the octopus crawls.[break][break]

"it's pretty dangerous in here, you know?"

The young girl is - fortunately - not moving an inch, even though there is the urge to go further into the deepening shadows. But the lure of bubble tea is getting her by the minute, as much as it distresses her as well because how could she leave without 'it'? From where she stands, only so much is visible of the other person, but ... oh, wait, that ... rings familiar. Oh, right. "Does that make you like a knight?" she asks instead of supplying much else.[break]

It's only after a few more heartbeats - each second emphasised with the sound of wreckage somewhere further away, drawing just a little closer with every passing moment, like thunder and lightning - that she finally reveals a little more of why she is where she is, instead of waiting for a safe rescue. "... my pendant. It's very important ... I can't leave it behind ..."

noah fights a laugh. he's no knight, not in his own eyes. the gym leader is quick to conjure images of Navy, of Elise Calcifet's bodyguard, Cadeyrn Osmond. still, he plays along with the fabricated fairytale.[break][break]

"sure, and uh, knight noah's going to help you find your pendant." he relents. [break][break]

as his grapploct clears the immediate area, noah advances forth. [break][break]

"i'm coming, alright?" [break][break]

he wades through debris, occasionally resetting the odd plank or swatting away bull kelp. nearby, on the walls, his grapploct follows.[break][break]

but the pokemon is quick to detect a drednaw's breathing: their dragon and perhaps, where the pendant has been stolen away to.[break][break]

It's surprising how immediate the reaction to his confirmation is - playful as it comes, there is a sincere joy coming from the younger all of a sudden as she smiles, a little more relaxed than before. A knight! That can only mean something good, right? Knights are always the good guys in fairy tales, after all ...! (Okay, most of the time. It counts as always.) "A knight!" she verbalises her thoughts, nodding along as he offers help. Yes ... alright. That seems to work out, right?[break]

Carefully, she keeps her Munna in her arms as she follows the other's voice, looking around cautiously, but likely missing one or the other (choosing not to see), as ... "Is there something?" she tries to stay quiet since Noah seems to have spotted something, drawing closer to the other in this broken structure.

noah eventually spies the drednaw. its staunch body, segmented like plate armor, is a menacing defense: a lair of its own. a shiny glimmer twinkles in the shadow beneath its ribbed neck.[break][break]

"no problem for a knight and you're my... princess? or queen? or you could even be a fellow knight too, let's be real."[break][break]

he almost walks into chrysanthe as he loses track of his thoughts. like a surprised delcatty, he straightens his back and raises his hands.[break][break]

his grapploct behind and above him on the ceiling, quietly points at the turtle leering nearby.

"I'm a princess!" nearly comes immediately as response, fully convinced of her words as she nods to emphasise the same. Though, a fellow knight ... being a fellow knight could be fun, too. "But maybe I'll be a knight for the day. What do knights do-?" she manages to say before he stops, and she stops moments after him, too, first walking against him before going back a step. Huh? "What happened-?" she wonders out loud, looking for what Noah might be looking at. A ... Drednaw? And is that her pendant? Is this another evil overlord? Oof ... this place seems to be full of them ...[break]

Quietly, she calls for the Morelull, Iarlaith, pointing into the direction of the Drednaw. "Can you spy on the evil overlord for me? Thank you ..." As the small Pokémon is quietly on his way, she looks back to the other, squinting, "what do we actually do ... I want my pendant ..."

in hushed tones, the gym leader forges a plan like the imagined armors hanging proud on his frame. [break][break]

"your morelull. can it make the drednaw fall asleep? honk shoo shoo and all that?"[break][break]

the turtle exhales loud enough for all to hear. it shifts, and the light the pendant catches soars across the dusty, rusty walls.[break][break]

"i'll distract it with my grapploct and you and your morelull?" noah pushes his hands together to rest his head on. "sleep that stinker."[break][break]

he looks straight into her eyes. confidence exudes from him like a waving war standard.[break][break]

"be brave like a princess knight, alright?"[break][break]

and he goes as his grapploct drops from the wall. they dance before the dragon, limbs flailing in foolish art.

It seems like the time is nigh for some serious battle-planning - only the map and the figurines are missing with which they would determine positions and such, but she figures there can be a lack of such in this situation, considering their positions are all pretty fixed. Making the evil overlord fall asleep ...? Hmm ... "Yeah, I think so," she nods earnestly, though cannot quite hide the amused grin over honk shoo shoo. That's just like all the comics she read! And Noah comes pretty close to it, too, even without all that shiny glamour, heh. "Let's!" Chrysanthe lets out with a whisper.[break]

Looking at the Morelull that already departed, she gives out a small clicking noise that alerts the small dual type, looking back to his trainer. With sign language, she signs to Iarlaith, put that gentleman to rest (she doesn't know how to sign 'sleep that stinker', verbatim). Just as she receives a nod from the other, her gaze goes back to Noah and his Grapploct who ...? Staring wide-eyed, she soon cannot quite suppress the bubbling laugh, a quieter sound amidst the wreckage. "Now you're more like a court jester-" she comments with glee, thoughts soon circling back to ... "Will you really buy me a bubble tea?"[break]

In the meanwhile, the Morelull soon goes to work, operating in the blind spot of the larger Pokémon as he uses Sleep Powder, soon lulling the Drednaw to sleep - soon enabling the two to rescue the precious pendant she lost, and with that, enabling her to leave this place, safe and sound.
